Septoria Leaf Spot Diseases in Tomato Crops

We are go through the Agmoocs Agriculture ICT Course in which the assignment 2 given to the students is analysis and use of social media platform to find out the Disease in Tomato Crop.

Lets Know about Agmoocs ICT Course:
Agmoocs.in started a course on ICT. Information and communication technologies (ICT) have become fundamental to the functioning of our society, quite like electricity and roads. There are a variety of ways agriculture domain harnesses the power of ICT. In order to appreciate how ICT can be used in agriculture, it is important to understand the basic concepts in this space, their functionality and their limitations.

This course on ICT Basics will cover the fundamentals of ICT. It will deal with how information is gathered from the real world, stored in the machines, transmitted from machine to machine. It will talk about how the system figures out your location and your identity. Management of servers and services over the Cloud is another fundamental ability, which will be discussed.

This course will be followed by advanced courses, which will take you further into ICT applications in modern agriculture.

Assignment 2-Use Social Networks to find solutions :

Septoria-leaf-spot
Imagine yourself to be a Tomato Farmer. While working in the field, one day, you notice that the leaves of the Tomato crop have spots, which are small, circular to angular, isolated, scattered and pale brown to black in color. These spots seem to be surrounded by a narrow chlorotic zone in some cases. Some of them also have brown lesions near the stem base. A few plants are completely defoliated. There is a picture below showing the situation.
You need to find out what the disease is and how to control it.

Solutions according to my research and Social Media Network:

tomato-plant-crop-disease

The disease which affects the leaf of a tomato plant and create spots, which are small, circular to angular, isolated, scattered and pale brown to black in color is caused by a fungus.Septoria leaf spot is caused by a fungus, Septoria lycopersici. It is one of the most destructive diseases of tomato foliage and is particularly severe in areas where wet, humid weather persists for extended periods.

Symptoms and Diagnosis
Septoria leaf spot usually appears on the lower leaves after the first fruit sets. Spots are circular, about 1/16 to 1/4 inch in diameter with dark brown margins and tan to gray centers with small black fruiting structures. Characteristically, there are many spots per leaf. This disease spreads upwards from oldest to youngest growth. If leaf lesions are numerous, the leaves turn slightly yellow, then brown, and then wither. Fruit infection is rare.Control leaf spot by not crowding your tomatoes. Leave enough space so air circulates and dries leaves.

Avoid overhead watering. When watering tomatoes, water at the base of the plant. Also, water in the morning so wet leaves have time to dry before evening.
A fungicide formulated for tomatoes can be used to treat affected plants.

Final Words:
Septoria Leaf Spot is a rare disease in tomato plants. And it is cured by proper use of pesticides. For more info you can search the disease name on Google Search. Agmoocs ICT Course is a great tool for Agriculture professionals and Farmers.
