Things to know about GATE

  • GATE is an abbreviation for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
  • GATE is an examination conducted jointly by the seven IITs (Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Bombay, Guwahati, Madras, Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISC).
  • The GATE exam is your ticket to securing a seat in IITs, NITs, BITS Pilani-like top-level colleges in India, for post-graduate programs (M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) as well as different PSUs across the country (Public Sector Units).
  • Generally, people begin preparing only 4-5 months before the examination. However, if you want to be among the top scorers, you need to start focusing on GATE from today !
  • The GATE exam cannot be cleared by simply mugging the concepts. Believe in understanding concepts. Understand how things work and how you can apply them to solve different problems.
  • Testing yourself continuously before the exam makes you aware of your strengths and weaknesses and gives you a great opportunity to eliminate all weaknesses.
  • It is not necessary for you to join a coaching institute, unless you really think you cannot sit at home, and study regularly with self-discipline.
  • Most of the GATE/PSU toppers have not attended any formal coaching. If you have self-discipline and focus, you don't need to spend thousands of rupees on coaching then.

Final Words

Before you decide that you want to sit for the GATE examination next year, I'd like you to ask yourself one question - Do I really want to pursue a career in engineering or do I want something else from my life ?
If you really, really, really want to study more about Engineering, and become a MASTER of Technology, then GATE is for you.
And you can secure the TOP rank in this exam, I assure you.
All that you need to have is - focus, confidence (not over-confidence though), and self-discipline.

With these 3 weapons, you can win any war !
