Letter Postal Stamps

Have you ever thought of the reason why we stick the postage stamps on the top right-hand corner of the envelope? Or is it just a habit

Why do we put stamps in upper right hand corner of envelopes?

BAS Report, When i ask this question to the Peoples they give me answer like below:

    The right is always right!
  1. Cause its the right way>
  2. Until about 1890 people put them in either top corner. Now the upper right is customary, and automated machines are set up to only accept stamps located there.
  3. Because the peoples put is in right side.
  4. Yaar Kya Batau kisine laga di hogi to sabne right me lagani suru kar di

But it is not the right answers so I investigate on it and try to searching the Information.

RIGHT ANSWER

In 1874, Universal Postal Union was established in order to co-ordinate the postal policy of each member states and achieve a more consistent postal arrangement among them.

Universal Postal Union is now an organization under the United Nations. Most of the countries are now the members of the Universal Postal Union. Universal Postal Union has compiled a "Letter Post Regulations", pursuant to which it is stipulated that the postage stamps shall be applied, as far as possible, in the top right-hand corner.

About Universal Postal Union

The Universal Postal Union (UPU, French: Union postale universelle) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that coordinates postal policies among member nations, in addition to the worldwide postal system. The UPU contains four bodies consisting of the Congress, the Council of Administration (CA), the Postal Operations Council (POC) and the International Bureau (IB). It also oversees two cooperatives including the Telematics and EMS Cooperatives respectively. Each member agrees to the same terms for conducting international postal duties. The UPU’s headquarters are located in Bern, Switzerland.

French is the official language of the UPU. English was added as a working language in 1994. The majority of the UPU's documents and publications – including its flagship magazine, Union Postale - are available in the United Nations' official languages.
