BMS CET 2013 for Delhi University (DU)

Applications have been invited by the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University, for the four-year degree programme Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) through an entrance test for the academic session 2013 to 2014.

Programme

The Bachelor of Management Studies is a course that has been recently added to the curriculum, combining the three most popular courses: Bachelor of Business Economics (BBE), Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) and Bachelor of Financial Investment and Analysis (BFIA). It will be a four-year undergraduate program (FYUP) and eligible candidates can find admission to colleges under the university.

• Application forms available online: 21 May to 10 June, 2013
• Admit cards available for download: by 20 June, 2013
• Entrance test: 26 June, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Eligibility criteria

The cutoff marks for the general category are 60 percent in any four subjects including English, 54 percent for Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates and 50 percent for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) candidates.

Exam pattern

The Common Entrance Test will be a written examination to evaluate the aptitude of students to pursue the BMS course.

• The candidate must answer 100 questions within 120 minutes of allotted time on separate answer sheets that will be provided to the candidates at the examination centre
• There will be negative marking for wrong answers. Marking of multiple answers for one question shall be treated as wrong answer
• The students can use either blue or black ball pens for answering.
• The candidates must report by 10 a.m. at the examination centre on the day and no one will be allowed in the hall after 11 a.m.
• If students fail to carry their admit cards they will not be allowed to take the test.
• Calculators, pagers or mobiles are not allowed in the hall.
• No candidate is allowed to leave the examination hall before the end of exam.
• The candidate has to hand over the answer script to the invigilator and can take away the test booklet.
• Each correct answer will fetch the candidate plus three marks and each incorrect answer will decrease one mark form the score. If a question is not attempted, the score for that particular question remains zero. If the candidate chooses two options for the same question his answer will be considered wrong.
• Students will have to fill in their roll numbers and other details on the booklet, marking attendance, verification of documents, distribution and collection of answer scripts. The test booklet will be handed to the candidates at 10:50 a.m. and they can break the seal only at the second bell.
• The invigilator has the right to cancel copies of students taking up dishonest means.

Syllabus

There is no syllabus prescribed for the entrance test, but the test will evaluate the following in a candidate:

• Reasoning/analytical skills
• Quantitative ability
• General English
• Business and general awareness

Application procedure

The application forms are available at www.du.ac.in and www.fms.edu with payment of Rs. 1,000 for general candidates and Rs. 500 for candidates belonging to SC/ST or OBC.
After the qualified students have chosen their colleges they have to immediately pay the admission charges and documents at the allotted time in the allotted college. If a candidate is unable to do so his or her candidature will be cancelled.

Exam centres

The entrance tests will be held in exam centres situated in the following places:

• Delhi
• Allahabad
• Ahmedabad
• Chandigarh
• Hyderabad
• Kolkata

Depending upon the score in the entrance test, candidates numbering four to five times of the available seats will be called for a personal interview.
The final selection of the student will be determined from 50 percent weightage from the score in entrance test, 30 percent from the Class XII aggregate and 20 percent from the interview. Among the selected number of students a rank will be allotted to the students depending on the above three items and then the highest ranks will be offered the best choice of seats in colleges.
The signed admit card should be retained until the entire admission procedure is over.

About the counselling process

1. The chosen candidates will come to know about their allotment of colleges depending on the rank only at the counselling session.
2. The candidates are to be present as per their ranks on the specified date.
3. In case any candidate is unable to come, he must authorise a representative to carry on with the admission process and other formalities. In this case a written application from the candidate must be submitted to the admission committee.
4. If a student intends to change college, he can do so after completing the admission procedure.
5. In case seats are available in top colleges, students appearing in the later counselling sessions can opt for it.
