Kanpur Indian Institute of Technology Council

KANPUR: The city schools have welcomed the IIT Council's compromise formula of allowing only top 20% students of each of the boards to appear in the entrance test for seeking admission in the IITs.

The school managements believe that this compromise formula will ensure that the students give priority to class XII boards instead of preparing for the IIT-Joint Entrance Exam straightaway. Also, it would reduce student's dependence over coaching classes.

Talking to TOI, Balbir Singh, manager of Bright Angles School said that this is a welcome move of IIT Council as it would enable students to study hard for the class XII boards. As for being a part of the entrance test, each of the student will have to work hard to secure good percentage in class XII. Only top 20% students of the board will be eligible to sit in the exam and those who would qualify will be able to take admission in the IITs, said Singh further.

Similar were the views of Angad Singh, Principal, BNSD Shiksha Niketan who said that this formula of IIT council will force students to give importance to the school. He said that so far the students of class XII used to remain busy in preparing for the JEE but now they would pay attention to their studies in school. Another school principal said that the new formula of IIT Council will ensure students attendance in school. She said that the students would no longer bunk their classes and their priorities would change.
